SCHOOL ANNUAL REPORT (2019-20) Smt REMA NARAYAN (PRINCIPAL)

Sadguru Public School is governed by Shri Bhuvanendra Educational Trust which was established in 2012. The Annual Report showcases the achievements and glories of our school undoubtedly , but also makes us think deeply about our shortcomings. We have always been committed to create an environment in the school which helps the young minds to blossom and provide a platform for individual thinking and holistic development of the child’s personality. We set standards and goals for ourselves and strive to achieve them. “Arise , awake and stop till the goal is reached”(Swami Vivekananda) With this motto in mind I wish to present the Annual School Report depicting the activities of the School for the Academic year 2019-20.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Sadguru Public School is spread on a 6.5 acres of green campus away from the bustling city in a serene and peaceful atmosphere ideal for learning and the healthy growth for our kids. We follow the CBSE system of education. We have 32 classrooms which are all equipped with Smart Boards for learning the e-way and also a well- equipped library with a collection of over 4003 books in English, Hindi and Malayalam. The Labs for Science, Computer , Math’s and Language have state of art facilities to make learning more innovative. Our Infrastructure also includes a Seminar Hall, an Auditorium, an Activity room, a Sports room, a Sick room, a Counsellor’s room and an International level Swimming pool.15 School Buses are plying to different locations for the convenience of the students.

STAFF

Sadguru family consists of 47 trained and well experienced teachers. Our teachers are the pillars of the institution. Their dedication and motivation has improved the performance of the students since the inception of the school. We maintain a Teacher-Student ratio of 1:25. We also have 37 supporting staff which includes Office staff, Security, Bus drivers and Assistants who take very good care of the students.

ACADEMICS

Sadguru Public School is not just a place where children study and score marks. Our endeavor is to produce the future Leaders, Visionaries and Compassionate human beings through our holistic value based education system. Our curriculum is multidisciplinary combining ethics and excellence in education.

The School strictly follows the CBSE Board and is always updated with the activities of the Board. The School Academic year is divided into two terms. Three periodic tests and Two term examination. Weightage in each of the subjects will be assessed based on Class tests, Classwork, Note books, Discipline and Enrichment activities. All the students of class X appeared for the Board Exam and Our Second batch again made us proud with an excellent result. Out of the 38 students appeared, 31 distinctions and 7 First Class with no Second Class.  Kannan E was the school topper with 97.4%, followed by DarshanVenugopalwith 97%, PrathulPramodwith 95%. The subject toppers were English- Kannan E and Meenakshi Hari with 98 %, Hindi – DarshanVenugopal with 98%, Malayalam –Revathy K S with 98%, Mathematics – Kannan E with 98% , Science – Kannan E with 99% and Social Science – Pooja Krishna M and Aparna S Poduval with 98%. I congratulate the Students, Parents and Teachers for this success and also the Management for their sincere support in producing 100% result.

Remedial teaching is also undertaken for the sake of academically weak students. Regular Open House meetings are arranged to discuss about the progress of the child and to get valuable suggestions for the betterment of the students. All the classrooms have digital teaching aids which has been created to make the learning process interesting for the students.

In order to reduce the Weight of the School bag most of the books are kept in the classrooms and sent back only when home works are given or during exams or on long holidays. This time a Year plan was given to the students from III-X for submitting the Projects/Assignment so that they can prepare everything in advance and for the convenience of the parents to buy the materials needed for the same.

STAFF ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME

In SPS all teachers are well equipped in their respective subject. They keep updating themselves with the latest guidelines of the CBSE given from time to time. Constant training programmes are held for them to stay updated with all types of modern teaching aids. We are very much thankful to CBSE Trivandrum for giving us an opportunity to conduct 2 Capacity Building Programmes in our School. Nearly 74 teachers from different schools participated in Ethics and Integrity Programme and about 64 teachers participated in Mathematics Capacity Building Programme . Apart from this our teachers attended several other workshops conducted by CBSE which was held in different parts of Kerala.-

  • Remodeled Structure of Assessment for Secondary classes at Ambika School conducted by CBSE on 25th May 2019 which was attended by the Nisha Lakshmanan and Nisha Vijayakrishnan.
  • Capacity Building Workshop on Mathematics held in Sadguru Public School on 19.10.1 . It was attended by the Mathematics teacher Manorema O.
  • Two of our Mathematics teachers Roshini K and Vinod Kumar P attended the workshop on Super Teacher at Christ CMI School.
  • A Subject Enrichment Workshop on Social Science was attended by Reshmi C M and VarshaVishwanath at Ursuline Public School , Kannur on 27th and 28th of September.
  • Capacity Building Workshop on Science was held on 19th and 20th September at BhavansVidyaMandir, Perunthuruthy, Calicut. Sruthi N Nair and Shwetha Y attended the workshop.
  • A Capacity Building Programme on Classroom Management was held on 20th and 21st of September at Jayamatha English Medium School , Kasaragod. Reshmi C M and Suma K attended the Workshop.
  • A Capacity Building Workshop on Ethics and Integrity was conducted by the CBSE which was held in SPS and two teachers Rajesh V K and Manorema O attended .
  • CBSE conducted a two day Workshop on Experiential Learning at Nirmala Public School, Muvatupuzha . The Academic Coordinator Nisha Vijayakrishnan attended the programme.
  • CBSE conducted a three day Workshop on Artificial Intelligence Facilitator Training workshop at Toc-H Public School, Ernakulam. The Vice Principal Nisha Lakshmanan attended the workshop.
  • A one-day workshop on Malayalam was held at Christ CMI School, Kanhangad which was attended by Rajesh V K .
  • Heartfulness Education Trust conducted a three day camp for the teachers on value integrated teaching to create a conscious learning environment in Schools. The class was handled by Ashok Rao and his team from Udupi.
  • A one day workshop was conducted by the Extra marks resource person Mr Nithin to update the teachers with the Digi board.

STUDENTS ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME

We need to equip the students with empathy and knowledge, so this year especially we had arranged a number of Student Enrichment programmes to successfully channelize the halo of the young minds.

  • A Career counseling class was conducted for the students of VIII, IX and X by Sunil D. Kuruvilla, HRD trainer, Career Counselor and Motivational Speaker from Insight Mission, Mavelikara.
  • “Karadi Path” the Communicative English education started in 2017 for KG –II standard has been successfully running with a very good result. This year it was extended to class III. It has been well appreciated by the parents as it has made communicative English stronger among the students.
  • In association with the Heartfulness Education Trust ,we have appointed a faculty Mr. Manjunatha Kannan who associates the students in values by using different methodologies.
  • As a part of Experiential learning

               1. The students of VI standard visited a Paddy Field in Periya. It was a wonderful

                    experience  for the students to learn about Koyithutsavam 

             2. A Mock Parliament was organized by the Social Science department for the students of

                  class VIII, IX and X. They enacted the session of the Parliamentin a befitting manner.

PARENT ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME

As a regular practice followed every year, this session too began with the Orientation Programme for the Parents. We not only empower our students but their parents as well.

  • During the beginning of the academic year the Principal addressed the parents of IX and X standards to make them aware of the present scheme of education and how parents can contribute in achieving the result.
  • A Parenting session was arranged for the parents of KG-10th. Different issues confronting the parents was discussed and they were asked to actively involve themselves to be a part and parcel of bringing changes for the overall development and growth of their child.

The class was handled by Mr. Sunil D Kuruvilla, a renowned Motivational speaker and a Career Counsellor.

SCHOOL PROGRAMMES AND ACTIVITIES

Kindergarten Convocation: Kindergarten is the first step of the education ladder. Our Kids completed their Kindergarten education and their Convocation Ceremony was held on 26.03.19. The Chief Guest was Dr. Ashwini Nair from the Department of Microbiology ,Central University of Kerala.

Re-opening Day: Freshers Day was celebrated by lighting the lamp by the Principal Smt. Rema Narayan accompanied by the Superintendent ,Vice Principal and the Academic Coordinator. Sadguru welcomed the new comers with cherishing memories of the cartoon characters near the entrance of the school gate.

Felicitation to the first Batch of Class X (2019-20): The 2019 Batch of Class X added another feather to our cap by securing 100% pass. Out of the 38 students appeared, 31 students secured distinctions and 7 First Class. There was no Second Class. Kannan E was the school topper with 97.4%, followed by DarshanVenugopal with 97% and PrathulPramod with 95%.

The Students were felicitated by the Principal and the Management. The toppers in each subject were given prizes.

Our Students had participated in the Science Exhibition held at the Central University on February 19th& 20th. SPS got the Best Innovator Award. Our Students Varun P, Harshit Krishna , Devanand K, Arya Ashok, Shiva Priya N, Saneha Santhosh of Class IX and Lakshmi Parvathi of Class VA were selected one among the best in the District.

Reading Week: The Reading Week was observed to honor the contributions of Sri P N Panickar to the cause of the Library movement in Kerala. A number of literary activities were conducted in English, Hindi and Malayalam. We could witness an active participation by the students and their hidden talents were exposed.

International Yoga Day: Sadguru Public School has given utmost importance to the teaching of Yoga as we understand its benefits in molding our student’s mental and physical health. On the International Day of Yoga Dr. VridaMadhavan, a practicing Ayurvedic  consultant and Yoga Therapist gave a talk on the importance of meditation for the wellness of the students.

Vanamahotsav: Vanamahotsav, the festival of planting trees was celebrated by planting saplings provided by the forest department . The Principal Smt Rema Narayan inaugurated the programme by planting the saplings in the school campus along with the students.

School Parliament Election: The School Parliament Election helps the students to develop skills in communication, leadership and decision making. Every year we conduct an authentic election process to elect the Head Boy, Head Girl and the other members to the School Parliament. Ashwin C Nair of Class X was elected as the Head Boy and Shiva Priya of Class IX as the Head Girl. The Investiture ceremony to induct the new members to the School Parliament was organized on 15.08.19. The Chief Guest was the Member of Parliament from Kasaragod Constituency Sri Rajmohan Unnithan. At a glittering ceremony the elected members were sworn in by the MP. 

Ramayana Month: To keep up with our regional culture and imbibe our tradition to our students we observed the Ramayana Month with full devotion by chanting of the Ramayana every day for a month by the teachers and the students. The month was made appealing to the students by conducting various programmes like Ramayana quiz and recitation of the holy book. On the concluding day the Chief Guest Swami Sree Bhoomanda Puri gave a talk on the importance of respecting elders and leading a disciplined life.

Guru Poornima: To pay reverence to our Gurus we observe Guru Poornima every year. The Students of class X offered flowers to their teachers and seek their blessings. The Principal Smt. Rema Narayan addressed the students advising them to be respectful to their Gurus and that would help them to succeed in life.

Independence Day: The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic Fervor and gaiety. The Chief Guest was the Member of Parliament from Kasaragod Constituency Sri Rajmohan Unnithan who unfurled the Tricolor followed by a colorful Cultural programme.

Onam Celebration: Onam was celebrated with cultural fervor. Various competition were held for the students and payasam was also served.

Red Cross Society: The Red Cross unit started in our school continues to grow with more and more  students willing to do service activities .The Investiture ceremony of the new team was inaugurated by the JRC Kasaragod District Coordinator Sri Anil Kumar on by presenting the Scarf and Badges to the students.

NSS: The NSS unit of Sadguru Public School conducted a number of activities like Visiting an Old Age Home and a few Orphanages and  gave them financial assistance. Dr. IfthikarAhammed of the Central University of Kerala conducted an awareness class for the NSS students and briefed them about the activities of the NSS.

Teacher’s Day:  On September5th the students honored the teachers and received their blessings followed by the chanting of Guru mantras in the morning assembly. The class Xth students were given an opportunity to teach their juniors. In the afternoon they presented variety cultural programmes.

School Fest: The School Youth Fest UTSAV 2019-20 was conducted with all the zeal and enthusiasm among the students. The Fest was inaugurated by Miss Rithika Raj , a famous upcoming singer from Dubai. The guest rendered some beautiful songs and with that note we started our fest. Management Trustee Sri Santhosh Kamath presided over the function. Competitions were held Squad wise.

The KIDS Fest was also conducted for the Kindergarten where all the students participated with enthusiasm.

Gandhi Jayanti: To commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi , October 2nd was observed as ‘Plog Run’ for Swachh and Fit India by SPS as directed by the CBSE . Our Students participated in the plogging from Puthiyakota to Kottacherry . The students also cleaned the path by picking plastic wastealong the way. The run was flagged off by Hosdurg CI of Police Sri K Vinod Kumar. In his address he congratulated the Principal and the Students for taking the initiative.

Sports Day: The 8th Annual Sports day got off to a colorful start on 11.10.19. The Chief Guest was Mr. Tarsan Thomas , a National level football player and Dr. Revathi Sandeep , a famous Indian Athlete and an Ayurvedic Practioner. Mr. Tarsen Thomas took the ceremonial Guard of honour followed by the Sports Captains taking the Athletes’ oath and torching the flame. Competitions were held in various disciplines and prizes were given to the winners.

Navaratri Celebration: The ritual of worshipping Goddess Durga was conducted in the campus with devotion and sanctity. The students presented a sangeetarchana and a dance performance.

Children’s Day: On the occasion of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s Birthday the school celebrated Children’s Day with a colorful programme presented by the Kindergarten kids and our teaching staff. The teachers of the KG section surprised the students with their dance performance.

Sahodaya Fest: This year our students participated in the Kasaragod District Sahodaya competitions held at Christ CMI School, Kanhangad and Jayamatha English Medium School Kasaragod. The Students who brought laurels to our School are as follows:-

Sahodaya Sports Meet:

The Kasaragod District Sahodaya Sports Meet was held on Dec 8th ,10 and 11th in various venues in the district. Sadguru was the Runner Up at the Sahodaya Chess Competition held at Christ CMI Public School. Parvathi A.V, Abhinand M K and Abhinav M K bagged the Individual Trophies. Our School took the 3rd position in the Basketball competition held at Christ CMI Public School. NandanaCM  won the 2nd prize in shotput, LabinaBinu 1st prize in 200 meters running race and Ashish S Poduval stood 1st in 100 meters running race. The Relay team of Anusree K, Ayilya Raj, Fathima Zahara and Nila Vinod won the 1st prize.

SPS hosted the Sahodaya Football Competition which was inaugurated by Sri Biju Kumar V V who is a Santhosh Trophy player. It was held on December 10th and 11th in which we won the 1st position  under 14 category. Rev. Father Mathew Kalapurayil, Principal of Christ CMI School and the President of Kasaragod Sahodaya Complex presided over the function.

In the State Mini Basketball Championship held at Ernakulam on 27th April 2019 , Four of our Students Devadarsh E, Abhinav Suneesh and Adwait P Nair of Class VIII and Deekshith E of Class Vth represented the Kasaragod District Team.

NamrathaPradeesh of class VII won the Gold medal in the Kerala State Boxing Championship held at Kollam

Nandu Krishna of class X won the bronze medal in the State Level Boxing Championship held at

Varun P of class IX represented our School in Shotput under 16 for the State Amateur Athletic Competition held at the Municipal Stadium, Pala Kottayam on 4th of October 2019. He could bag one among the 10 positions.

Exhibition: The Annual Science and Arts Exhibition ‘SPECTRUM’ was organized on 22nd November 2019. The students along with their teachers displayed their creativity in all fields. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Muncipal Chairman, Kanhangad Sri V Rameshan. The Hosdurg AEO  Sri P Jayarajan congratulated the Students and teachers for their marvelous work. The Highlight of the Exhibition was the CHANDRAYAN II made by our Arts and Crafts teacher Mr.Prajith P V.

Short Film: Sadguru  Public School  encourages all type of creative talents in students. One of the biggest example for this is the inauguration of our Second Short Film ‘LOCK’ made under the guidance of our Physical Education teacher Mr. JayarajMadayi  and his team. The inauguration was done by Sri SreejithPaleri, famous serial and movie director. Sadguru Film Club was inaugurated by Actress Sangeetharna Vipin. The student actors of our school gave a brilliant performance. The Chief Guest applauded SPS for choosing  the theme ‘Drug Abuse’ and spreading a social message.

Varun P was selected one of the top 10 students from Kerala to attend the Regional Tech-Creation Boot Camp for Ideate for India conducted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Intel.  Later he was selected in the top 50 from India. The School is really proud of his achievement. He will be felicitated at a function to be held shortly in New Delhi.

Christmas Celebration: Christmas celebration was marked with variety programmes by our students. Carols and Santa Claus added  color to the celebration. A beautiful Cribb was also made by the Students.

Excursion and Field Trips:  Field trips are wonderful opportunities for students to have   experiences beyond the classroom. The school organized excursion and field trips to various places for all the students. This year on the 12th of December the students of Class VIII, IX and X went to visit Trivandrum for two days and the other classes went for one day to different places in Mangalore and Kasaragod.

Yoga: SPS bagged the runner-up trophy at the District Yoga Championship held at Greenwoods Public School.  Sreedev Divakaran and Abhiram K of Class VIII A and Sidharth S Umesh of Class IV B won the First prize, Sreenanda G Nairof Class IV B got the Second Prize and Shyamcharan of Class V B got the Third   Prize in their respective items. Sreeshma C and Nivedya K of Class VII B  got the Second Prize in Rhythmic Yoga. Karthika V of Class VIIB and Bharatchandran Nair of Class VI B got Third place in Yoga Free Flow Dance.

During the Academic Year 2019-20 our school was selected by the National Testing Agency as the center for NEET exam which was held in the month of May 2019. The Principal of SPS was appointed as the City Coordinator for conducting the exams.

Sports and Games: Training in Basketball and Football is provided to the students after school hours. Students are encouraged to participate in sports competition held at various places.

Hobby Classes: Hobby classes in Swimming, Karate, Skating, Abacus, Dance, Keyboard and Music, are conducted every Friday as per the Child’s interest. We do not charge any fees from the students.

Other facilities provided by Sadguru:

There are CCTV cameras installed in the campus for providing our students a secure and safe environment.

  • SMS service of the School keeps you updated with necessary information regarding your child.
  • We give utmost care to the students who need extra attention in their academic performance by providing them Remedial coaching.

The Academic year 2019-20 was a fabulous year for Sadguru. This report is a sincere attempt to showcase our progress in terms of achievements and activities. Many milestones have been achieved and many still have to be reached. We will continue our unceasing effort to mould the young minds into well balanced personalities with confidence and Zeal befitting the standard of education. All the good work of the School has been possible with the Cooperation of our highly qualified and dedicated faculty. On this occasion I wish to dedicate all our achievements to the committed efforts of our School team. We humbly salute our Visionary leaders of the past and seek the blessings of the God Almighty in all our endeavors.

I wish to express our Sincere thanks to the members of the Managing Committee whose inspiring thoughts of hard work motivated for the success of the whole institution. This relentless support and motivation played a vital role in our achievements.

Our office Staff and Supporting Staff also support our organization with their sincere hard work. We are highly privileged to have highly enthusiastic and motivating parents who have shown unflinching faith in us. Finally the most important part our Students. They made all our efforts truly meaningful and rewarding by their significant effort to do their best in academics and extracurricular activities. We are proud of each one of them.

We assure you that we will encourage a child to observe, to explore, to experiment, to probe, to analyses, to confront problems and find the solution and finally to develop the skills to face the future. Praying for the blessings of the Almighty to enable us to continue the tradition of excellence in all our pursuits.
